My New Year's Eve dream on January 1, 2007:

While on a nighttime walk, I stopped in awe at the unusual streaks in the sky from what appeared to be a meteor shower. The white streaks became bigger, longer, and began glowing red. I was standing on a hilltop, looking down upon a town, when I saw flaming balls crashing into everything. There were many explosions, and I was stunned by what I saw.

I looked up and saw a flaming ball falling toward me. That was when I turned and ran. Suddenly, I was sitting in a chair in my hotel room, terrified. I thought, This is it. It's time to die now. I lifted my hands to God and said, "Receive me, Lord."

Then I saw a little girl standing in my doorway. She turned to walk down the hallway. Thinking she shouldn't be alone, I went after her, but she disappeared. I found myself standing in the lobby, watching panic-stricken people running everywhere without a sense of direction.

I saw three women standing together, confused and grief-stricken. I asked them if they knew Jesus as their Lord and Savior. One woman became angry, yelled at me, and walked away. Another woman, without any reaction, quietly slipped away. The third woman stayed with me. I began to pray with her, but I was interrupted by many distractions. Another woman joins us, tearfully saying she did not know Jesus. I start to pray again, but my words come out jumbled…

I awoke to midnight fireworks before the dream could be completed. How scary and frustrating!

As I lay there thinking about the dream, I sensed that I should not focus on the meteors but on leading people to the Lord. We are to be ready at any time to share our faith. Take a moment to read 2 Timothy 4:2 and 1 Peter 3:15.

So, why was I unable to pray? I know that no matter where we are or what is happening around us, we should be capable of leading people to the Lord by praying the prayer of salvation with them. It doesn’t have to be long or with religious jargon. I usually focus on these points, while also being prepared to answer questions:

1. Sin separates us from God; ask for forgiveness.

2. Jesus is the Son of God, who died on the cross for us and rose again.

3. Ask Jesus into our hearts to save us and grant eternal life.

4. Thank Him for salvation, cleansing us from past sins.

5. Commit to following Him, grow in faith by attending a Bible-teaching Christian church.

In life or death situations, there is no time for explanation or instruction; “For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved”, according to Romans 10:13 (NLT). A simple cry out to Jesus will do, as demonstrated by the criminal on the cross beside Him, who said in Luke 23:42-43 (NIV): “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.” Jesus answered him, “Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise.”

Perhaps the meteorites represented all the troubles we will face—things only God can see us through—if we choose to trust and rely on Him; all the more reason we need Jesus in our lives.

Each passing year brings us closer to His return. We need to pray for those divine appointments and pray with boldness and confidence. Isaiah 55:11 (NIV) says, “So is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.”

So even if someone does not pray the prayer of salvation with you, know that God’s word will not return void. They heard the Gospel. You planted the seed. Now trust God to finish what we started.
