Even the Smallest Testimonies Matter

I grew up watching The Andy Griffith Show, The Brady Bunch, and Little House on the Prairie. The dads were what I loved most about those shows. I longed to have the kind and loving fathers they portrayed. I knew they were just actors playing a role, but I often imagined myself as part of their TV families.
Looking back, I realize that's where my testimony began, even though I didn't know it at the time.
I’m blessed to have a friend who grew up in a loving home with very little dysfunction. According to a Barna Study, she falls within the 24 percent of people who experienced a healthy, stable family life. How sad that this percentage has declined with each generation.
One day, she told me she doesn’t have a powerful testimony like mine. There was never a dramatic moment when she went from not knowing Jesus to knowing Him. She didn’t have a clear “before Christ” and “after Christ” story or a life-changing event that brought her to faith. She had simply always known Jesus.
I would have traded our upbringings in a heartbeat! Then I explained that she actually has one of the most powerful testimonies of all. Her upbringing reflects what God intended for all of us: a Christian home with two loving parents, siblings who care for one another, and a household built on Christ. That is a beautiful testimony of God’s faithfulness.
Since giving my life to Christ in my twenties, I have learned that God truly works all things together for good, just as He promises in Romans 8:28. That includes everything we experience, both the good and the painful.
My former pastor often reminded us, “We have two choices: we can get bitter or get better.
My difficult experiences helped shape me into a passionate believer who desires to follow Him wholeheartedly. Do I sometimes wish my childhood had been different? Absolutely. But God has redeemed my story and used it to make me who I am today.
I've often wondered whether I would have sought Christ as deeply if my life had been easy. If everything had always gone well, would I have recognized my need for Him? I honestly don't know. What I do know is that God met me where I was and drew me to Himself.
Our pastor recently echoed this very truth when he said, “It's not what He saved you from, but Who saved you. The context of our story is not the most important thing. Our story is meant to point people to the One who saves.”
If you were raised in a loving Christian home, then testify to God’s faithfulness. Encourage married couples, new parents, and troubled teens. Show others what a Christ-centered home can look like. Demonstrate healthy communication, forgiveness, and grace. Share how God has been faithful throughout your life, and point people to Jesus.
God uses every testimony to accomplish His purposes and bring Himself glory.
Acts 1:8 (NIV) reminds us: But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.
Our "Jerusalem" may be our family and closest friends. "Judea" can represent our neighborhood and local community. "Samaria" may be those who are different from us or outside our comfort zone. And "the ends of the earth" reminds us that God can use our testimony anywhere He sends us.
Your testimony matters no matter how minor you think it is. We all have the opportunity to be a witness; the Holy Spirit will equip us. Ask Him for a divine appointment; He’ll bring you the right person who can benefit from your story.
Not every testimony begins with dramatic hardship. Sometimes it's about how God protected you in traffic, gave you favor when you least expected it, provided for your needs, answered a prayer, or lifted your heart when you were discouraged. Those moments matter because they reveal God's faithfulness.
That's one reason I encourage keeping a Praise Journal. We are quick to forget what God has done, but when we write down His faithfulness, we create a lasting record of His goodness that strengthens our faith and reminds us of His promises.
Yes, my life includes painful chapters. But today, I’m grateful God redeemed them. If sharing my story helps even one person find hope in Christ or take one step closer to Him, then every difficult season has been worth telling.
